September 26, 2008 |
As part of our cultural and social contribution program, Daiwabo Information System will co-sponsor the "Export Lacquer: Reflection of the West in Black and Gold Makie" exhibition organized by the Yomiuri Shimbun. We will exhibit a total of 280 pieces including valuable collections in the possession of the Victoria and Albert Museum in Great Britain and the Museum of the Palace of Versailles in France, and famous objects including national treasures and important cultural assets from within Japan. Black and gold makie exported to European countries after early recent times captured the hearts of royalty and titled nobility including the French Queen Marie-Antoinette, and black and gold makie was known as "japan" in English. This is the first ever exhibition to reveal the whole picture of black and gold makie that Japan introduced to the world. |
