CHIeru and Daiwabo Information System begin selling a PC with preinstalled jointly developed flash materials, as a package model, commencing April 11

CHIeru Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as CHIeru; Head office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President: Mutsumi Kawai; Capital: ¥300 million) and Daiwabo Information System Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as DIS; Head office: Osaka-shi, Osaka; President: Yoshihiro Nogami; Capital: ¥11,813 million) will sell a PC, complete with preinstalled jointly developed flash materials and a special launcher, as a package model, named the "Flash Pack", for enhanced utilization of screens, electronic blackboards and large-screen televisions in the classroom.

As its initial offering, DIS will sell the "Flash Pack with Acer (Tablet version/Box version)", which comes with the "ICONIA TAB W series" tablet PC and the ultra small "Veriton N282G series" desktop PC, from Acer Japan Corporation, commencing April 11.

Background of the joint project
With the revision of the government curriculum guidelines, further improvements are being planned for computerized education in schools, including utilization of information and communication technology (ICT) in information- and curriculum-based education. In the "Guidelines for the Informatization of Education" (published in March 2009 by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology), in Chapter 3 ("On the utilization of ICT in curriculum education"), "flash materials" are included as part of "(4) ICT utilization by teachers to help students gain full understanding of what they have studied in class as a specific means available to teachers". These "flash materials" are effective in helping students master basic knowledge, and are expected to become indispensable as ICT-based classroom materials.

As large-screen digital TVs, electronic blackboards, and projectors gain widespread use, there are mounting concerns regarding how best to integrate these technologies with educational PCs in the classrooms of elementary and junior-high schools.

This situation prompted Daiwabo Information System to launch the "Flash Pack," complete with 13 kinds of flash materials introduced by CHIeru, and the newly developed launcher, to establish a classroom environment that allows teachers to easily and effectively utilize flash materials at any time. As a leading distributor of IT-related equipment, we will supply PCs of the "Flash Pack" series, with preinstalled flash materials, to boards of education and elementary and junior-high schools, in concert with our roughly 17,000 sales partners across Japan.

The first product is the "ICONIA TAB W series" PC, which is a tablet PC with Windows 7 from Acer Japan Corporation. Teachers can operate the flash materials and check student responses in order to assess their level of understanding, while moving freely through the classroom with the PC in their hands. In addition, each student can use the PC for self-directed learning through intuitive operation.

The "Veriton N282G series" is an ultra small desktop PC with Windows 7. It will not hamper the educational environment, even if set up permanently inside the classroom, because it is light, slim, and vertically installable.

CHIeru and DIS are planning to expand the lineup, in concert with other PC manufacturers, to satisfy even more diverse requirements.

■On the "Flash Pack"
"Flash material" is revolutionary digital material that can change a lesson as instantaneously as a flash card. It is a form of ICT material that allows all classroom pupils to study the lesson displayed on a large screen at a comfortable tempo. CHIeru has launched a total of 13 kinds of flash materials, divided into four groups: "English," "Basics and Foundations," "Kanji Test," and "Comprehensive." They are offered, along with the special launcher, as the "Flash English Pack," "Flash Basics and Foundations Pack," "Flash Kanji Test Pack," and "Flash Comprehensive Pack."
