As of October 11, 2011, Daiwabo Information System Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as DIS; Head office: Chuo-ku, Osaka; President: Yoshihiro Nogami) will commence providing the new "Rescue PC Solution (MIRACLE Smart Desktop)," projected by DIS and developed by MIRACLE LINUX CORPORATION (hereafter referred to as MIRACLE LINUX; Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Takashi Kodama), which is a disaster contingency planning solution for educational institutes, government and public offices, and municipalities. Prompted by the lessons of the Great East Japan Earthquake, much attention is currently being directed toward improving the environment for emergency information transmission, to confirm the safety of afflicted people and dispatch emergency assistance information. PCs with the pre-installed "Rescue PC Solution," to be introduced in schools and community facilities designated as emergency evacuation areas, can function as emergency information terminals in the case of such emergencies. The "Rescue PC Solution" is not easily susceptible to careless operation because only the Linux operating system (Linux OS) can activate it, and only a limited number of software programs, including web browser, mailer and document applications, can be used. Existing Windows PCs with the dual-boot environment of Windows and Linux are used for educational purposes in normal times, but can be instantaneously dedicated to emergency purposes simply by switching the operating system from Windows to Linux, at a lower cost than introducing special-purpose terminals. In addition, such systems allow all people, including inexperienced PC users, to use the emergency menu easily, and get the latest information at any time, because they support the cloud computing environment. Expected roles and functions of each party are as follows; DIS
