Alliance with IBM Japan for Sales of Internet Server Appliance Incorporating Open-Source Sun Cobalt Series Management Tools |
Provision of Markets solution for replacing Sun Cobalt Series based on IBM Japan's ® xSeries® |
Daiwabo Information Systems Co., Ltd. (DIS, President: Hirokazu Matsumoto, Head office: Honmachi, Chuo-ku, Osaka) will start distributing Internet server appliances in alliance with IBM Japan, Ltd. (President: Takuma Ohtoshi, Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo) and ClassCat Co., Ltd. (President: Noriyuki Sasaki, Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo). The IBM ® xSeries®, based on their advanced technology that incorporates the ClassCat Cute® Manager Series, provided by ClassCat, is built into the Internet server appliance launched today. The new Internet server appliance is an ideal replacement for Sun Microsystems' Cobalt server that was introduced in large numbers three to four years ago. The platform can be changed while maintaining the same usage environment. We will distribute the new product to the SOHO and educational markets as well as hosting operators, and plan to offer it as a platform for mission-critical operations. At the same time, DIS provides customers and sales partners with not only server appliances but also one-stop services that include introduction, installation, a help desk, and hardware and software maintenance in alliance with DIS's subsidiary DIS Technical Service Co., Ltd. In our lineup of Internet server appliances, we offer a SOHO Edition and a Datacenter Edition, each of which features maintenance-free operation thanks to Linux-based security hole patching measures and automatic updates and patches. SOHO Edition This is best suited as an intranet and Internet server for use by business offices or divisions. It features scheduled backups, a DHCP server, and IP masquerading, not to mention the functions of e-mail, Web server, and file server for both Windows and Apple applications. Datacenter Edition This has, as a standard feature, a virtual website management function ideal for hosting operations. A wide variety of applications, such as e-mail, Web server, FTP, and SSH are also available. In the future, we will provide server appliance platforms for high-end IBM ® xSeries® hardware. What is the ClassCat Cute® Server Manager Series?: This is a software program for commercial use that ClassCat developed by modifying the open-source management tool of the Sun Cobalt Qube 3 Plus and that of the Sun Cobalt RaQ 550 to support Red Hat. It features continuous operation and management of Linux-based Internet servers with the help of the same user interface that customers use with their existing Cobalt server.
